BREAKTHROUGH AWARDS 2023 WINNER SPOTLIGHT – Eloise Newing

Marketing/Social Media Production newcomer of the year Eloise Newing talks to us about her career highlights and why networking is so important.

Did you study? If so, where and what?

I studied Events Management at Manchester Metropolitan University and am now completing my MSc of Science in Marketing at Pompeu Fabra University, Barcelona.

What was your very first industry role and how did you get it?

I did a placement year during university and I worked as Event Success Manager for Regis Event Design, an exhibition stand building company. I landed the role through word of mouth – I basically told everyone I knew that I was looking for a placement position and a friend of a friend contacted me and offered me a job!

What has been your biggest achievement or ‘pinch me’ moment so far?

Launching The Neon Lounge podcast alongside Cat Kevern and seeing it listed for the first time on my Spotify page!

Is there one person who has helped or pushed you, been a support?

Absolutely! I owe a lot of who I am and where I am today to the wonderful Cat Kevern. I started working for her in October of 2022 as she has pushed me to become the best person I can be in both my personal and professional life every day since then.

Where would you like to be in 5 years from now?

In all honesty I’m not sure. As long as I’m happy and healthy and surrounded by some really great people, then all will be good.

Is there more industry should be doing for newcomers?

Yes, the industry can further support newcomers through mentorship programs, inclusive networking opportunities, and accessible training initiatives.

How important is networking for newcomers?

I can’t stress this enough, networking is essential if you want to really excel in your career. I wouldn’t be where I am today if it wasn’t for the connections, opportunities and knowledge I gained from networking both online and in-person.

Will you come back to the awards as our guest next year?

Definitely!! Save me a seat

How did you feel when you won the award?

I felt amazing!! Winning was an incredible feeling of validation and encouragement, motivating me to strive for further success in the industry.

What advice would you give to other newcomers who aspire to achieve similar recognition?

Find something you’re passionate about and really stick at it. Become the hardest working person you know and everything else will fall into place.

Are there any upcoming projects or initiatives that you’re excited to work on and why?

As I mentioned previously, myself and Cat Kevern recently launched The Neon Lounge podcast whereby we will be gathering inspirational people from across the events industry to investigate the nuances and niches or their expertise and uncover the secrets to success. Go give it a listen (cheeky plug!).
